Two photo gates are set up to time the passing of a vehicle.
With just a small to large pulley but no gearing down the time is 1.2 seconds for 6 inches.
With gearing to slow 9 to 1 the time is 8.3 seconds.
Friction plays some part.
They made an airplane to go on the runway.
