Toys

May 18, 2006
We looked at a book about building children's toys
using cams and pulleys
and came up with some ideas.
Hope Romine received an AEP grant for FIRST LEGO League next fall
and ordered the NXT and registration and mat.
Her toy is activated by pulling a string.
.
A cam on the axle makes this guy go up and down
Electricity can be generated for one motor by using another motor as a generator.
Putting it all together looks great.
Arms and legs can move by the pull of a string.

The movement of a cam causes more friction at some points
than a pulley can move without slipping.
A gear train works.
Moving the wheels rotates the cam that  push the axle up and then it returns down with gravity.
Building toys that move by cams is fun.
