Straw Rockets

January 9, 2014

There are many projects that can be done with pneumatics.
A grabber hand                       A baby walking dino

Today we are going to use the air power to launch straw rockets.

They can go from here all the way over to the back chairs - more than 9 feet.
A good science experiment needs to have one variable only.
We check out different lengths and weights of clay
and decided to use 3 inch pieces with small amount of clay at the end.
Five rockets were launched at 45 degrees
and then at 60 degrees.

Angle measurements were made very carefully

and checked.

We could see what looked like a graph on the floor.

I am standing at the average.

The distances were measured, recorded, and averaged.

The average distance at 45 degrees
to average distance at 60 degrees
was less by 3/4 foot.
