Simon's Fifth Grade 'Toon Machine!
Thumper enters the top of an elegant elevator and descends to the first floor. Then, he is pushed by a lilting lever onto a bustling belt conveyor where he moves along until a rollicking robotic arm picks him up, swings him around onto another burping belt conveyor. Next, Thumper moves onto a running roller conveyor where he moves into the grasp of a neurotic pnematic hand that picks him up and places him onto a dynamic dancing table as our Grand Finale! Go, Thumper, Go! LEGO POWER!

LEGO Dacta Control Lab Interface 'Toon Machine Setup

Procedure for the 'Toon Machine:

First click "lift up" to move lift up.
Someone puts "Thumper", the Toon Machine character, ont he Lift and pushes him on the wide belt conveyor by turning the handle connected to a lever.
The students have programmed the computer to have the belt conveyor move Thumper along to the robot arm, the robot arm closes around Thumper, robot arm moves Thumper to the angle conveyor belt and on up to the roller conveyor belt.
The pneumatic hand closes, sways to the right, drops Thumper and sways back left.
The Disco Dance starts!

Teacher Procedure:

Step One (First Day) Students worked in groups of three with individual LEGO DACTA sets with instructions. In each group there were three supervisors: Drafting Supervisor, Writing Supervisor, and Building Supervisor. (Some of the students never got over being "supervisor" instead of "supervised"!) With their assigned jobs being: making sure that the drawing is completed, the journals were completed, and the building assembled and pieces were accounted for without mishap.
Step Two (Second Day) The students in each group added something "Toonish" to their project.
Step Three (Third Day) The students put the projects together as one machine. This was not quite as easy as one might think. This day all the ideas came to fruition as the giant 'Toon Machine came to life.
Step Four (Fourth Day) The students had to "fine tune" the problems with connecting the six separate machines into one workable unit. There were several creative ideas born this day.
Step Five (Fifth Day) Success! All the classes visited to see our 'Toon Machine at work. Everyone marveled at our cleverness and creativity. We felt very proud of our creation.

Final Procedure of 'Toon Machine:

With "Thumper", the Toon Machine character, on the Lift click HERE on page one or push button. The elevator lowers, the toon is dumped off onto the belt conveyor, conveyor moves it to the robot arm, the robot arm closes around Thumper, robot arm moves Thumper to the angle conveyor belt, opens dropping him on the roller conveyor. The conveyor moves him up to the next roller conveyor. The pneumatic hand closes, sways to the right, drops Thumper and sways back left. The Disco Dance starts with the Bunny Hop music going.




	These pictures show the process of connecting the 'Toon Machine together. The six components fit snugly to work as one, computer programmed 'Toon Machine to send "Thumper" through the machines to the tune of "The Bunny Hop"!
