Chair Angles

January 3, 2006

Using the Simple machine set, these two Davis Creek  fifth graders built a chair.
They had talked about how long it takes to build.
The range for the times for this model was five minutes to 10 minutes.

A couple of things made the building go faster.
To count long beams see how many is half and double that number.
Count the number of holes that are missed to see where the axle goes.

We tried to find a protractor.

It turns out that it is easy to print them from the Internet.
Big is better.

Placing an axle in the center makes reading the angles easier.
The rays of the angle go through the holes on the beams.

Measure the angles at each step up.
Figure out what you think would be the last angle.
Were you close?
