LEGO 2001 Miss Adventure Challenge I:  Raft

Davis Creek Elementary 5th grade students are working on the LEGO Miss Adventure Challenges.
The scenario is that a ship wreck strands some victims on a deserted, tropical island.
The only supplies available are the items on board the ship and the island's natural resources.
The first challenge is to build a device to get to the island with as much of the ship's supplies as possible.
These students built a raft with a pulley and bucket to load on items from the boat.
They started with wheels on the raft, then changed it to propellers to better for better utilization in the ocean.
Perhaps the wheels will be used on the island for transporting the supplies from the ship.

Working on the Gateway computer these students also built their model in LEGO CAD.
Wheels may not be the best choice for a raft

Surviving the terrible storm is only the beginning of my story.
I have been stranded on what seems to be a deserted island.
Fortunately, the wreckage of The Miss Adventure is  hung up on a reef.
My first challenge was getting supplies from the ship to the shore. This is what we did...

We talked out some ideas and drew up a plan.

We designed a crane to pull up the Miss Adventure's wreckage.
We made a bucket to pull up the ship's variety of items.
At the beginning we had wheels instead of propellers on the raft.
We also designed a custom steering wheel to steer the Miss Adventure raft.
