LEGO Robotics Cities and Transportation project

After seeing where they can run the RTI LEGO CITY and rover
the students had a quick lesson on RoboLab.
The 50 students subdivided into 8 groups to build projects for city
transportation.
There was building, programming, and making background.
This car was motorized.
The gate was programmed to open with a key card.
The mono rail was programmed to go back and forth. There was
a safety bumper at each station.
The robot with the 2 light sensors can follow the light from a flash
light.
The groups set up the city transportation.
Then made the city come to life.
Each group showed off their projects
It was camera time.
Their city was the best!
What is the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search (HATS) Program?
The Heart of Appalachia Talent Search Program is a federally funded
program that provides academic support to students between the ages of
12 and 18 who demonstrate the ability to succeed in college or a vocational/technical
school. As part of the Federal TRiO Programs that was authorized
in the Higher Education Act of 1965, Talent Search has a well established
record of helping students achieve academic as well as personal success.
Working one-on-one with students, the Talent Search staff is committed
to helping students reach their fullest potential.

The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs
designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
TRIO includes six outreach and support programs targeted to serve and
assist low-income, first-generation college, and disabled students to progress
from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals who have
the potential to succeed in higher education.
We serve schools in Mason and Wayne Counties.
In Mason County, we serve Hannan High School, Point Pleasant Middle
School, Point Pleasant High School, and Wahama High School.
In Wayne County, we serve Buffalo Middle School, Ceredo-Kenova Middle
School, Crum Middle School, Fort Gay Middle School, Spring Valley High
School, Tolsia High School, Vinson Middle School, Wayne High School and
Wayne Middle School.
The program provides academic, career and financial counseling to its
participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue
on to the post secondary school of their choice.
Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to
reenter the educational system and complete their education. The goal of
Talent Search is to increase the number of youth who will complete high
school and enroll in the post secondary institution of their choice.

Advice on entry or re-entry to high school, GED or College
Information on post secondary education
Exposure to college campuses
Information on student financial assistance
Assistance in completing Admissions and Financial Aid Applications
Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams SAT or ACT
Mentoring programs
Cultural enrichment activities
Workshops for the families of participants
