Winch can lift heavy objects.

The object has potential energy when it is up and gains kinetic energy as it falls.

The winch that is easy to turn takes many turns to lift the object.
The winch with a gear box does not drop object.
This winch has a gear box.  It is easier to lift a heavy object but takes more turns.
