The LEGO motor can be used as a generator
or dynamo to change kinetic energy into electrical energy.
In the lamp electrical energy is transformed into light and heat.
Very little energy is needed to turn the axle on the motor.  But when it is used as a dynamo and the lamp is attached more kinetics energy is need to turn the axle.
It really isn't that hard but you can feel the difference.
Kinetic energy can be transformed into electrical energy and then into kinetic energy to turn something else -
perhaps an elephant.

Two mothers helped today.  Eight students worked through the lesson in a next door classroom.  Then those eight were the teachers to two others back in the class.  This way four sets of dynamos could be used by the entire class of 24 students.
