LEGO Motors as Generators
How Efficient?
Part two

Kinetic energy of turning the axle on a motor can be used to generate electricity to light a lamp or even turn another motor.
Students are to plan an experiment to determine how efficient the generator is at turning another motor.

Generating electricity to change to kinetic energy to move a motor looses some energy to friction and heat.
Find the efficiency as percent of turns on the dynamo.

The LEGO motors with fly wheels and gearing inside seem to be more than 90% efficient.

While counting 100 turns of the dynamo and the other student counting the resulting turns on the motor,
it was hard to keep track of the count.

Watching how far one car went as an other car acted as a  generator worked well.

Other pieces from the eLab set may be used to build a project to check out efficiency.
