Generators
April 4, 2006

Today the students were free to use their imaginations to build a car.  The only specification was that the
car had to utilize a motor and gear system for drive train.
When two motors are wired together,
one can act as a generator and power the other.

Once the cars were constructed, the students connected a second motor to their car to act as the
generator.  The cars move when the handle of the generator is turned.  When the handle is turned in the
opposite direction, the cars reverse direction.  Next time we will experiment with gear combinations to
maximize and minimize the speed of the cars.
