After going through the procedures for helping the third grade understand the placement of pieces and their uses,
the four groups of two each built one of two kinds of winches.
The winches that were fast would easily drop when there was no hand holding the handle.
The slow winch with the worm gear seemed hardly to move at all but actually did slowly and with out dropping.
It took 3 or four winches to lift the heavy weight.
