Davis
Creek Elementary and
Pea Ridge Elementary are communicating remotely through the Internet
as part of the NASA K12 Outreach Grant for the Mars Red Rover Project.
The two local schools connect remotely using computer software that allows
the Mars Red Rover site to be seen and driven by both locations simultaneously.
The Red
Rover vehicle, similar to the NASA Mars Pathfinder vehicle, is located
at Davis Creek and has a Connectix camera on the vehicle to allow remote
viewing by both sites. During the month of October the students at
the after school LEGO
program at Pea Ridge drove the Red Rover robot at Davis Creek. Davis
Creek 5th graders provided the interaction and dialogue to keep the robot
moving. The two groups of students can send messages through the
software. Many Martian
sights were seen, including a strange shoe, faces, legs, and other alien
beings.
WSAZ visited Pea Ridge Elementary's
"Earth Site" remote communication project as part of the coverage for the
NASA K12 Outreach Grant of Davis Creek Elementary.
