Today at Spring Hill the students got a first taste of LEGO Robotics
this year. Working with Mrs. Wither's 5th grade TAG class, Kate introduced
the students to the motorized simple machine set. Some of the students
had worked with this building set before, while others had a first time
hands-on experience. We had a limited amount of time, but the students
were still very successful. One group of boys built a merry-go-round
and were able to hook it up to the motor to show the class. A group
of girls built a lounge chair, just as we are finishing up summer and then
the other group of boys built a conveyor belt. This group of children
will be the First LEGO League team at Spring Hill Elementary and will participate
in the local event and possibly the state tournament, held in Wheeling
this year. The students will be working together every Tuesday until
the LEGO League tournament where they will have to do specific missions
and programming. It is our goal to practice programming, building
in the next few weeks to prepare for the tournament.
