RoboLab Investigator Light Sensor to Sound

February 15, 2006

Today was a very heavy thinking day.
The plan was to program in Investigator to be able to
data log the light sensor reading from different color papers.
The goal was to program the robot to have different colors make make different sounds.
After a program with a light sensor is run
there are three ways to view the light sensor readings.
One way is to push the VIEW button on the RCX until there is a "V" under the port of the light sensor
and then look at the screen.
Another is to Interrogate RCX which is in a drop down window under Project.
Also for this project we checked the Red Container.
And the graphical way to see the light sensor reading is to have
a data logging program run and UPLOAD the data.

From our early work with the uploading of data for the various colors of paper,
we found that black green and blue had about the same readings.
The light in the room was about 30.
The reading from blue paper was about 40.
The pink readings were about 50.

The program could be printed out.

The data and programs are going to be displayed on the wall.
The program sounded great. As the light sensor readings went up the notes played were higher.
The graph showed the light sensor reading going up, down, and up.
To be able to hear the notes the light sensor data was placed in a container,
multiplied by 8 and increased by 129.

The students did a great job of writing up about all they did in the project description area.
They described the program and data with pictures of each.

At the end they made a presentation and showed it to the teacher.
