Learning about hidden technology
Children taught about simple machines of airports at MCTC summer camp

HUNTINGTON — Fourteen children spent the past week learning and building models of the hidden technologies found in airports as part of Mountwest Community and Technical College’ s summer camp lineup.
Led by instructor Linda Hamilton, the campers worked with pulleys, gears and simple machines to create the conveyer belts that get luggage from the check-in desk onto the planes, as well as people movers.
Hamilton is leading another round of free mini camps, "Building Fun,"
starting Monday, June 28, at various branches of the Cabell County Public
Library.
Hamilton, a professor in the Marshall University math department and
an employee at the Nick J. Rahall Appalachian Transportation Institute,
will bring a vast collection of LEGO ® DUPLO® elements
and will lead children in creating a city neighborhood, vehicles and places
to work.
Her schedule includes 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, main library downtown; 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, Barboursville; 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, Guyandotte; 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, West Huntington; 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, Salt Rock; 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, Cox Landing; l 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, Gallaher; and 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, Milton.
