After showing the students about gears using the DUPLO size ones
they made the AIMS Governor Rules project.
When a gear with many teeth drives a gear with few teeth the output
is fast.

Investigating Gears: It's No Mystery to Us!
Quote from Mrs. Blackman's BLOG-
http://lablackman.blogspot.com/
"Today our 4th graders worked diligently on a logic problem about nutrition
(and the lack of!).
Then we investigated gears with Mrs. Linda Hamilton from Marshall's
LEGO lab.
We constructed a "governor," a device that helped regulate a train,
and then used different gear configurations
to see which arrangements produced the fastest and slowest spins and
which were hardest and easiest to crank.
This took cooperation and analytical thinking!"
