Average Distance

February 2, 2009

TAG at Village of Barboursville and Central City made cars and learned about taking averages.

When the cars are lifted to the top of a ramp they have potential energy.
As the car is released it has kinetic energy.

The distance traveled is an indicator of the amount of energy.

The distance for two trials are averaged.
Sometimes it was easy to find the middle number. 24" and 26" average 25".

To find the average of 35" and 23" they added half the difference to the smaller number.
The Central City group ran each of their cars two trials each for 3 different highest.
They compared their average distances to see if higher ramp means longer distance.
Of course too steep did not go far.
