Connect:
· Ask students to think about being a teacher. Ask them what they think a teacher has to do to be a good teacher. What work do teachers complete at home? Ask students to think of what might be fun about being a teacher. Ask them to think about what teachers might not like to do.
Construct:
· Students should create a story about a day in the life of a teacher. Students should start their stories in the morning before the teacher comes to school and end with the teacher going to bed. They should include all the details they can think of – what he or she has to get done for himself or herself, the class, and his or her family. Don’t forget that the teacher has to think about what is being done tomorrow!
Contemplate:
· Ask students to share their stories. Ask students if they think that all parts of the story could be true. After everyone has shared, ask the class if anything might have been left out. If you wish, you can help them think about other items.
Continue:
· Students should use StoryVisualizer to create a list of things that teachers do before school, during school, and after school. They can add pictures to help show all the things that teachers do. They can add details from other stories.
Guiding Questions:
· Do you think being a teacher would be a fun job? Why or why not?
· Do you think working with students is easy or hard? Why?
Extension (optional):
· Ask students
to build a story where they are the teacher for a day. What would they
do? How would they change the room, the schedule, and what is taught?
