Connect:

Talk with the students about some things they might want to do during summer vacation.
Perhaps some students will travel, some will go swimming, some will read and relax, and some will play baseball or soccer. Ask students to think about things they would really like to do. Have students work in groups of three or four. Students should write a story that shows a few good friends spending summer vacation together doing things they like. They should incorporate all the favorite activities of each child. The story should have at least three parts and at least three plates but may include more.
 Construct:

Students construct a story using at least three baseplates – beginning, middle, and end – showing three or four children enjoying their favorite activities during summer vacation. They should add lots of details including where they are, how they got there, what they are doing, and so forth.
 Contemplate:

Students share their stories, asking questions of each group to get more details. You may wish for students to signal how many of them would like to do the activities or how many of them have ever done a certain activity before. Students may add up to 10 more pieces to their builds after they have heard the stories.
 Continue:

Students use StoryVisualizer to write their stories. Each child should prepare a section of his or her group’s story. They should include lots of details.
 Guiding Questions:

Are your parents involved in getting you to the activities?
Do your parents do the activities with you?
Do you prefer to do the activities with friends or by yourself?
