Car Wash Data Logging at Miller Elementary
March 6, 2002
Data logging light sensor readings is like
"seeing" the difference between light and darker. Try facing towards
a bright window with your eyes shut. See if you can tell when a hand
is in front of your eyes. The light sensor on port 3 at the LEGO CITY is
like "seeing" when the windmill sail is in front of the light sensor.
Try figuring out how fast the windmill is going around. Note that
ROBOLAB can be used to write a web page of your experiment. A publishable
page before March 15 with results within 10% of the actual rotation rate
will be rewarded.*
At Miller Elementary students set up light
sensors on ports 1 and 3, touch sensor on port 2, a lamp on port A and
a motor on port B then made various programs for datalogging.
To try out the programs in the classroom they made a car wash to use the
same sensor data. They programmed a car on port B to go back and
forth. At the LEGO CITY there is a monorail.
